Scorpio sZn: Birthday in Zona

For my birthday this year, I attended a charity event with my boyfriend, Nemo, in Scottsdale, AZ. He was gracious enough to do the driving so as a passenger I could relax and do some flashcards for our Renal course. We stayed at The W Scottsdale which was a nice central location amidst the bars and clubs in the area as well as the venue for the event. The hotel was really modern and chic; I wish we could have stayed longer to explore more of it. I did not take very many photos since I was just trying to enjoy myself, but their website has a healthy amount of photos you can check out if you are curious here.

Before heading to the venue Nemo organized a photoshoot for us, because who doesn't want to feel like a celebrity on their own birthday?! We got some decent takes considering I could use some work on my poses, and overall I am happy with the way the photos turned out.

The event was held by a charity called The Challenge Foundation that focuses on helping students with their academic and extracurricular pursuits starting from a young age through high school. It seems like a really cool and comprehensive organization which you can learn more about here. We were fortunate enough to get invited to this event by one of Nemo's connections. We met up with him and his date to get our passes and we all headed out poolside where the event was taking place. Probably due to the movies and TV shows I have watched I have always imagined a charity event as a cocktail hour followed by a sit-down dinner with an auction, and people getting honored with awards and such. Definitely not the case here. Instead, it was more like an endless cocktail hour with hors-d'oeuvres being passed around, an open bar, signature drinks, and even Russian Roulette. In the later hours, the pool area began to transform into a club as Afrojack was performing that night. Personally, I spent most of the night talking to two other women, one of whom was pre-med and the other who was a physical therapy assistant, so of course, we all bonded very quickly while our dates talked shop.

Since my boyfriend knew one of the DJs playing at the bar down the street we all headed there to let loose and partake in a typical Friday night for millennials of Scottsdale. Once we got to Hi Fi we went right to one of the tables where we received bottle service which is not something I get to experience very often. I had a lot of fun jamming to some good music, meeting my boyfriend's friends, and overall just enjoying good vibes. Going out is such a rarity for me these days, so I took full advantage of the opportunity and allowed myself to just relax and have fun.

The next morning was spent getting brunch and exploring different bits of the city. It was a cool time to be there since it was GameDay for the Sun Devils so everyone was in their Sun Devil garb (#BeattheSunDevils). Overall the college town had a really ecletic, young vibe, and looks like it makes for a very fun collegiate and post-collegiate experience. Unfortunately, this trip to Arizona had to be a short one since I was running a race in Malibu that Sunday which you can read all about here! That's it for my birthday experience! I can't wait to see what 26 has in store!
